Security experts canvass constant training

Constant training is imperative in crime prevention, experts have canvassed. They made the  assertion at the end of a two-day workshop for security operatives, which ended on Sunday in Lagos. The experts noted that criminals could outsmart security operatives lacking in modern techniques of crime busting. Ezekiel Isodabomen, the Managing Director of a security outfit, told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) that ignorance on the part of security men was a major challenge to combating crime. Isodabomen urged banks and other organisations to constantly train their staffers and  use motivation as a tool for fighting crime.

``Motivation of staff should not only be in the area of finance but also recognition of staff effort and involving them in policy formulation. ``Honesty is also needed in the fight against crime and there is the need to de-emphasise materialism in the society,`` he said. While delivering his lecture entitled ``The Role of the Security Supervisor/Communication``, Mr. Emmanuel Ishie-Johnson, the Managing Dircetor of another security outfit, urged participants to be adaptive to change and adopt current security trends aimed at saving lives and property. Ishie-Johnson said that security men should never leave anything to chance or to assumption if they were to move with the evolution of crime which has assumed a new dimension in an Information Technology age. Lending a voice to the issue, Abudu Salami, one of the trainees at the workshop, said that ``criminality is not static and there is the need to be ahead of the criminals.''
