NDLEA counsels Nigerians on drug trafficking
The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Mr Ahmadu Giade, on Wednesday in Lagos charged Nigerians to shun drug trafficking. Giade, in an independence message, said it was sad that drug abuse had claimed lives of millions of people globally, saying the trend must be checked in Nigeria. ``Let us avoid any thing that will either smear the good image of the country or back pedal the wheel of progress,'' he was quoted as saying in a message issued by NDLEA Spokesman, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju.

He said the agency would continue to investigate the illicit wealth of drug dealers to ensure that drug barons did not enjoy such wealth. He was also quoted as saying that a recent UN study showed that about 16 million people globally were estimated to ingest drugs, thereby exposing themselves to HIV/AIDS. The NDLEA chief also said that a research by the agency in 2007 on drug administration by addicts showed that drug ingestion was assuming a more dangerous dimension.
