Akpabio
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has raised alarm over the presence and illegal circulation of substandard pressure vessels, LPG tanks and gas cylinders in some parts of the country.
The Director-General of SON, John Akanya, who raised the alarm in Lagos recently said the products were brought in without mandatory inspection, testing, certification and approval.
He said the fake products were smuggled into the country by some unscrupulous businessmen and that the development constitute a serious danger to lives and property and the economic well-being of the nation.
According to him, SON in collaboration with law enforcement agencies is already on the trail of the importers. He said that those behind the importation of substandard products shall be prosecuted as soon as they are apprehended, adding that it is unlawful to import uncertified items into the country. Akanya said the organisation has strengthened its various border posts to reduce influx of substandard items into the country.
