Foreign investors eye Akwa Ibom

Not less that 17 foreign investors have indicated interest in investing in various areas of the economy of Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner for Economic Development, Lawrence Udosen, has said.
He named the sectors which the investors are interested in to include, oil and gas, housing, culture and tourism, education and health.
Udosen also said Ukraine and Jordan have also indicated interest in partnering with the state government in the areas of human capacity development and infrastructure. He explained that Ukraine has agreed to train 15 medical doctors and 15 engineers from the state, while the Ukrainian chambers of commerce and the state government were holding discussions on the terms of partnership.
Udosen said Jordan was interested in developing the state's sporting facilities and building a warehouse for the multi-million Naira Ibom Airport Cargo terminal. “We are putting things together on terms and conditions of the partnership,” he said.

He said the state would benefit from a N1 billion World Bank-assisted community development programme adding that the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, had approved "in principle", the payment of the N100-million counterpart fund for the loan.
